Well, in 1916 Metz belonged still to the German empire. So... german uniforms and german language is not necessarily surprising. And the uniform of the cbg guy looks to me like the other uniforms (for example, the collar). It just looks lighter, but that could be sun and shadows...
Hmm, I'm a little suspicious about this photo. The fellow holding the guitar seems to be in a WW2 British uniform- note the beret. The others are, I think, in WW1 German uniforms. Kappelle Krach is German and means "Racket Band."
