I used a heat gun from the metal working workshop and managed to melt the epoxy off. it took a bit of digging with the end of a broken hacksaw blade, but eventually it popped off. easy peasy. sure, the heat gun melted a lot of the hide glue to the ribs are a tad wobbly, but i call this a win.
