Ted with his grandfather's mandolin. It sounds great.Probably over a century old. No maker's marks. The machine heads are unlike anything I recall seeing. They gears are recessed into the peg head.

I can't shed much light on the maker but I've seen these recessed tuners on a few old mandos. You probably already know that the generic name for these bowl back mandos is "tater bug" and they're as hard to keep in your lap as a gourd banjo.
But that's from pinterest , so anyone could have mislabeled it . .i would also consider "Osborn " of Chicago. as another guess. (both had recessed back plates .. even a full single plate on some .)
But that sexy thing on the back wall is definitely a swamp witch ;-)
