license plate git

My first license plate resonator guitar. The box is made from scraps of bamboo flooring and the neck and peghead are oak. There's a cheap CB Gitty pre-wired strat pickup under the plate for plugged in action. Tapping on the plate produces a great thump through my 65 watt Stage amp.I'll have an all-thread nut and banjo bridge when I string it up. I expect I'll do 4 strings tuned open D or open G. This one will be fretless and I plan to create a mountain scene on the neck to indicate the 3,5,7,10 and 12 positions with peaks.

  • Thanks Uncle John.  the headstock just sort of made itself on this one.  :)

  • Looks great and I love the headstock.

  • Thanks

  • The pickup is not touching the plate.  It has a little headspace.  I'm not picking up on the strings, just the vibrations of the plate.  This is to the credit of Jef Long who has shown us how it's done.  This way, you avoid the ill effects of a piezo and you probably can find a way to play percussion on the plate too.

The license plate is the only top on the body.  The box is reinforced in the corners, but otherwise is just a perimeter of wood.  In fact, I put this plate's twin on the back side too.  Most people just use plywood on the back.

The volume and tone pots are prewired  to the pup for the especially lazy and I purchased them from CB Gitty.
