LEDs!

Everybody knows LEDs are fun, so I figured these pickups needed some. Using clear Lexan as a base, a layer of diffusion film and some vinyl tubing, I was able to get these to light up pretty good in low light. (The pics exaggerate the effect.) My plan is to put them in a “retro-future” guitar of some kind, maybe a lap steel. I’ve also been experimenting with getting them to respond to picking the strings through an Arduino and the proof of concept is there, but I need to refine the wiring and the code. It’s probably all a bit too much for the roots purists out there, but this is pure DIY making magic to me. Check out this pic for more details.http://www.cigarboxnation.com/photo/plated-pickup

  • Thanks everybody.  I like that Korrigan - the instrument of the future!  In some ways I'm a purist myself - I like roots music and simple, easy to build homemade instruments, but CBGs were my gateway into the world of electronics which has been as fun and interesting as anything I've tinkered with.

  • Crazy cool!

  • Style with heaps of killer cool .

  • That's awesome T! And don't worry about the purists. If it wasn't for innovators like you we'd all still be playing 6-stringers instead of the instrument of the future, the CBG.  : )

  • Way cool, turtlehead!  And thank God - NO RULES in CBG's!
