I had one of those boxes, but thought I might rip my hand to shreds on its rough finish. You're a braver man than me! Looks good, I can't wait to see how it turns out.
If you wanted to you can leave it as an open box design but you have to flush the fret board with the box and it weakens the structural integrity of the build. It is best to glue it closed. It would not open with stings on it anyway so I always glue them closed.

I might do something like that IDK yet. The lacquer may smooth the box out enough with this one but the edge boxes are rough to play.
