Yeah, I really didn't anticipate the amount of work and science that goes into building a fiddle, even one with a cigar box for a body. They need to have everything a regular fiddle has, and it all has to be correct to get a decent sound out of it. I have been using a retired luthier friend for a little guidance. When he first saw all of the roughed out parts, he laughed, thought I was pursuing a useless venture, but the more work I did on it, the more excited he got to play it. It should be done with a couple more hours of work, and I will post a video of it being played.
Started out as a roughed out neck, and by "roughed out," I mean ROUGH. Have some finishing sanding left to do, but all of the chiseling, filing and grinding is done.
