  • Yeah, me and my dad were a bit worried we might have taken too much out! On the plus side, I should have enough wood for at least 3 more necks so if it really doesn't work I can always re-do it! Thanks for the advice!

  • Yep oak is good for the necks I use the recurve in it to help with the angel on the neck ... Each build you do you learn more and more .
  • Uncle knows best. Oak can work as it's so stiff but poplar or pine will bow easy.
  • Holly, that looks well done on the cutout, but maybe a bit thin on the wood going through the box.  Usually less than 3/4 inch is prone to bowing the neck.  It may be okay or you could glue up a 1/4 inch or so piece under the neck and even have it come out of the box and inch or more as a 'heel'.  I hope it comes out a winner for you.  The truth is that 90% of us have had some builds that did not work out.  I hope you enjoy the build and soon build another.
