Glenn -- The pic is correct. It's hard to see but the bass string is on the left. The fret markers are down when you play it.
It has a really rich tone. I have one 27mm piezo so it is mellow amplified as well.
I did replace the nails (pictured) with match sticks for fret markers. The nails acted a frets and were a little annoying.
This one is a keeper but I have made two "cousins". Sold on and blessed my friend with the other. ;)
