Yup John, aged brass door catch did the trick. I was really trying for the look of a Cbg that was made 75 years ago and left in an attic or trunk somewhere and just discovered.
It was a hubcap that was never chromed-it looks like brass.It is thick so the volume is not loud but sounds great.Your right about the Terraplane. Its gonna be hard to top that one. I always give anything wood or metal a good tap. If metal has a chimey sound-its good. I would avoid anything that just goes "thud" unless its for an electric guitar.
