I had E bass string of electric bass guitar on but sliding made a terrible scraping noise over each wrapping of wire on the string! I could be wrong but are bass strings the thick ones from a bass guitar just not suitable for slide! I ended up replacing with low string thickest from standard medium cbg 3 string pack!
Embarrassing... I had to look it up to be certain. The part the string sits upon is the saddle and the support below that, if any, is the bridge. Yes, if you don't have the frets marked, you can slide the saddle and bridge inward allowing the top to vibrate more and probably give better acoustic sound.
Scruggy, what I need to play these is fret markers at the 3rd, 5th, 7th and 12th frets. One way to get those is online under Stew Mac Fret Calculator.
That looks good. Cute pup too. Scruggy, it does not matter plugged in, but you will get better acoustic sound if the saddle is a couple of inches into the box. Nice diddley. I like the pickup. And the controls.

Thanks was fun build not 100% happy with the bridge yet though so I might change it!
Yes moving up saddle made a difference alright!
