  • I have used small wood screws as string trees, just routing the strings under them. My first two builds have very high action. My third build is better, about 1.2 mm at first fret. My current build will be en lower since I am still experimenting. I intend to use screw hooks for string trees on that one. We'll see how it goes.
  • Since this is my first build, I can't say I've had any problems. There is a fair distance between the strings and the neck on this build. On my next build, following recomendations, I'm intending about lowering the string height and maybe include some frets, which might be problematic when preparing the same style headstock. I'm thinking of building some sort of 'improvised string trees' - I'm not to sure how yet, I think I'll go for a pint to think about it.
  • I build in a similar way, but I have problems with string tension.  I've been installing "string trees" behind the nut to keep the strings down.  Have you had similar problems?  If so, how did you compensate?
