HogsHead Amp

HogsHead Amp, the cigar barrel was a gift from my good friend Uncle John. 2.5 watt amp, 3 1/2" Sony speaker, Strat volume knob, led on/off, external 9v battery tray. It has a little story on the barrel about how in the early 1900's they transported tobacco in large (48"x30"dia.) wooden barrels called HogsHeads, each barrel weighed upwards of 1,000 pounds. Kinda a cool story I was not aware of. Thanks for the cigar barrel John, I hope I did it proud.

  • Thanks Keith, the cigar barrel was a gift from Uncle John. He said "here do something with this" so I'm hoping I did it proud, I had never seen one of these barrels before this one. As a gift from my good friend UJ and as happy as I am with the way it turned out this is one of those few amps that I have built that I won't part with anytime soon ;-)

  • Man I want one!
  • Thanx Vin ma man!

  • way cool

  • Thanks John, I wasn't sure how to go about building a base for the barrel. It's an odd shape to make something fit to it and make it fit with a nice tight joint. I fiddle faddled with this and that and this was the final result. The handle was a last minute add on, I went to pick it up and found it a little awkward to grab sooooo a handle. I didn't read the inscription on the barrel until after I got it done, I had no idea that was how they shipped tobacky back in the day and had never heard a wooden barrel called a HogsHead?

  • The base and handle are inspired.
