Thanks Uncle John! It is just the white oak, same as the back side, but stained with a steel wool & vinegar soup. It reacts with the tannic acid in the wood to turn it black, but varies on darkness depending on the wood. Maple will only turn gray, but I have had good success on red and white oak and cherry
