  • Thinking in terms of drilling about a 3/16 hole in the middle of the end of a chunk of broomstick sized dowel, then milling a slot across the end, so I end up with a slot with a center dimple that automatically aligns it onto the tuning head. Then I’d just twist it like a screwdriver.

  • Hey Bruce. Had another 3 in the morning idea, to help with tuning inside the box. A regular wooden close pin should fit nicely, with some modifications. 1st, put some superglue on the outside spring pins to keep it in place, and soak some in the wood to strengthen it at that joint. Then cut a triangular piece of wood to snug into the back of the close pin to keep it tight. Or, take it apart first and dip or brush on some wood hardener, let it dry and glue the spring. I don't know, just thinking out loud. I'm sure you already have it worked out.
