    Howdy DB,
    I put a block of wood on the lathe and turned a shallow bowl in it. Then hammered a piece of sheet metal into it to form the cover. I drilled the holes in the cover before hammering it into the convex shape.

    I made the tailpiece out of some brass flat stock, and engraved it with a dremel tool.
