Rand, there are a number of online resources for gourd banjos... although i can't remember which ones I referenced when building this instrument last year. A google search will get you there tho. The gourd didn't take much to prep... cut off the top and scrape out the stuff inside with a spoon. I did use a bit of shellac on it tho. The skin you simply soak in water for a couple hours and it because stretchable. Use glue in addition to the tacks.
That's a very sweet looking gourd banjo. I'm interested in knowing how you prep the gourd, stretch the skin and tack it all down. Or if you have some Internet links to other sites that share this info already. I once built a 1-stringer out of a smaller gourd, but without skin, it didn't put out much sound. I am interested in alternative resonator "boxes".
