God/Mother Nature given inspiration

I want to keep the CBG fretless, but I'll need some "fret markers". Just didn't what will be both functional and good-looking.On the late afternoon yesterday the revelation came.Does anyone know how to paint/stain/anything the wood to obtain this effect?

  • Well, I still don't know how to keep the look for ever ;-) I tried with burning of the "frets", but the results aren't satisfactory (I put the pictures online, perhaps it'll be good for some other project in the future).

  • Thank you, C.J., but I'd like something along the lines of "spotted neck" than "flat frets"... I may use your solution for the next projects, tho'
  • I like to cut fret slots and then fill them with a mixture of epoxy and lamp black for a nice clean line that will not rub or wear off.
