I've had to resolder enough jack grounds due to too much stress being placed on 'em, because the nut wasn't tightened properly; the jacks tend to rotate and put stress on the ground wire, ultimately breaking the connection. I've fixed numerous "non-working" electric guitars for teenagers around here, and almost all the time, this ends up being the problem. And I've put new pickups in my Strat a coupla times now...
Shouldn't have to isolate it. If you look at a standard Strat jackplate, the jack just screws into the plate, and is held in place by the nut. If you've got the jack properly grounded, then when you plug in a guitar cable, that thould then be plugged into a properly grounded amp, and viola! No worries. What's funny is I was just at the hardware store a couple days ago, and was thinking of the very same thing, but with a recessed cabinet pull...
Thank you, thank you. I hope it work too. Isolate the jack from the housing? I must have you fooled into thinking I know what I'm doing.... I reckon I will find out after I get it all put together.
Holey buckets. I knew what that was the second I saw it. Great idea and good job. Now I hope it works well. Do you have to isolate the jack from the housing?

great idea !!!
slick idea---and I second the locktite on metal jackplates, it saves a lot of aggravation in the long run!!!!
I learned the hard way (of course) to put a couple of drops of locktite on the threads before tightening.
Sounds like Ron, (Oily) knows his stuff. Right down to the importance of grounding if you are using a magnetic pickup.
