I'm going with a four string CBG for the first one. After working on the 3 string version (several times), this one would have been simple had I not decided to go with the same wood (Wenge) as the fret board. I taped the entire piece with painters tape before drilling. The tape helps prevent tear out and with the Wenge, it really kept the wood from splintering and breaking.

Oh, I forgot an item on the tool list....the sandpaper, of course. And I cheated a bit using a Micro planer (again, pretty cheap but invaluable)...buy it on line from a place like Rockler or Woodcraft. They are cheaper there unless the cook in your house has a Pampered Chef micro planer for zesting or Parmesean (sorry about the spelling) cheese....if you can get away with it, take it and toss it in your tools box. The latter is actually more expensive.
Thanks for the Atta-boys for the cover plate!! Nope, don't sell them...could I suppose but, and let me know if this would benefit anyone else; I can give a detailed explanation of how to make them. I tried to do it with the simplest tools I could (not so with the first couple. I used every expensive tool I had around). Turns out, it's pretty simple. I can write up a little instruction piece with pictures if there's any interest at all. Let me know. <ichael, I'd be happy to tell you how to do it. The last piece tools list were: painters tape, a coping saw, a regular hand drill and some fancy drill bits (these I bought for a bookcase project using dowels...the Forstner bits work great. Wonderful for countersinks and drilling smooth holes without tearout), and they are usually always on sale at Rockler or Woodcraft in a set. Good investment.
Nice job Kimmer - yep wenge is a real pain in the ass to work but if you take it easy it pays off and looks cool - if your pickup ring is anything to go on your guitar build should look sweet
