A beautiful purple-brown stick of poplar with a loud, diagonal grained poplar fingerboard.I'm already planning the finish on it (:I just don't know what action and strings it will end up with.I'm thinking I'll whittle a bone nut and saddle for it, and brass details. Can I stain bone?

  • Beautiful grain.    I just finished a uke with poplar and I cussed that wood for being soft and fibrous.   But once done and oiled it came out good.

    Badfinger -Eric- recently stained some bone with coffee grounds if I am recalling correctly.

  • Stick the bone in wet coffee grounds overnite...gives it a nice aged look

  • Bone can be dyed, it is very common in the knife making world, it may take some stain but probably not to the extent that wood does.
