Thanks Uncle John. These are the first ones I have used the little neck pickups in and they sound awesome.
I didn't find the one with the radiator cap tailpiece but I'll keep looking. I make cigar box guitars as well but as I'm into old car scene I love the hubcap ones. Here is a photo of one of my cars which is what type of car the red one is from.
Oh man, I like those and the backdrop and red part. Like them like they are, but did you see a the photo (close to this one) where a radiator cap is used for a tail piece? Could go good with hubcap builds.
I have a Mercury hubcap build I will hang onto. Also, have a VW hubcap in the shop. It has not inspired me to build yet.
Thanks for the detail Barry, Yes, I saw the festival "Get Rooted" on Paul Thorley's site. Being handled by Nigel McTrusty, I think. What timbers for the neck did you use? I've used Tas Oak from Bunnings for the last one/first one I did. Seemed to be ok.... Cheers Les
I'm in Ipswich. I've built a couple of Vw ones with piezo discs they put out a good sound. I've been playing around with the magnetic pickups and I'm real happy with how they have turned out. The Hj is a Wilkinson pickup and the Fj is a Gotoh one. I went for this type because they are a bit smaller and being chrome blends in well. The only thing I found was to keep the bridge as far away as possible from the pickup.
Do you know about the Get Rooted Festival at Goodna next Sunday? I'll be there as I was at the first one and it was an awesome day. Regards Barry
Hi Barry, you've got to be an Aussie!! Where are you? I'm on the Sunny Coast of Queensland, and just about to build a three stringer with a VW Golf hub cap. Do you have a pickup in yours? If so, what kind have you used. Looks a great pair of 4 stringers!! Cheers, ZimZam....

I like the hot rod. Reminds me in shape of my first car. A 49 Desoto. (a Chrysler product)
