Purchased a "you finish" neck & fingerboard. The neck is maple and the headstock came as a paddle. This is my design (which I'm sure has been done before). I layed out the strings on paper and then the width of the neck at the nut and then just sort of freehanded it until it looked right. Then I cut the design out with a scissors and laid it on the headstock and traced it out. Cut it out with a jigsaw and then sanded (and sanded) to get the sides smooth and remove the scratches in the face caused by my jigsaw plate. (I'll learn).
I purchased the "you finish" headstock as a way to get a "real life" pattern to build from in the future. The fingerboard has cuts for the fret, on a 24-5/8" scale and is mahogany. It looks superb stained Dark Mahogany. I stained the neck with a Light Oak but don't really care for how it makes the maple look like Yellow Pine. :( I think I will sand it off and try something else. I should probably try to match the box color (a Cohiba).

PS... thanks for the nice words, Marcus!
The "you finish" kit came with three pieces:
