First Act M104 Mod 1

Here's an easy mod I did on my First Act M104 amplifier. I installed two 9-volt battery clips from Radio Shack, using existing screws. Didn't even have to drill anything. A good battery goes in one clip and powers the amp, and a spare battery goes in the other clip. The amp's specs call for 14 volts, but mine runs fine on 9 volts.

    Hi Gene, I thought I replied to this but must have failed somehow. I don't know how long the battery will last as I haven't played it enough to find out. It's plenty loud for a practice amp in the music room or basement workshop. One thing I do with it is use it as a signal tracer during troubleshooting and it really works well for that. Sorry for the delay in getting back to you.

    Good deal, Hal.  These are really decent amps for the money.  I bought a Cohiba cigar box last fall and built a guitar out of it.  I took it and this amp back to the flea market where I got the Cohiba box and played it for the guy who sold me the box.  It drew a decent sized crowd before I got finished up,  Let me know how yours works.  See Ya!

    Hi Uncle John - I'd almost bet that 18 v would work.  There was another amp like this one at the thrift store the other day.  It didn't have a power supply and I bought it for ten bucks. I might try two batteries on it one day just to see what happens. See ya!

    Good idea, Mike.  I wonder what to batteries (18V) would do.  Louder or blow the it up?
