  • This one didn't make it into this project...I decided to build my own blade pickup just for this instrument
  • oh I just noticed you were commenting on the UNFINISHED pick up --- those outer poles you'll see are 'gone' in the finished 9-pole ...next photo...
  • Hi guys, I just thought it was bitchin'

I just wanted a cool single coil for a 3-string with the strings spaced out wider than a 6-string...the pole spacing wouldn't work without turning the pickup at a really sharp angle, which I thought would look cob-jobbed and random ---

so i saw that there were guide holes already in the bobbin between the existing poles --- so i just drilled those out and the new poles I made were identical and tapped right in between the existing poles. so i figured it was almost like having a blade pick-up. but the outer poles (now 1 and 11) were now kindof extraneous and unnecessary --- but they tapped down flush to the bobbin no problem.

I like the math that it worked out to a 9-pole 'rail' pk-up -- a center pole and two side poles for each string...and would sit at a more 'natural' Strat pick up angle.

I don't know --- after looking through the entire Seymour Duncan catalog I saw some cool looking pole arrangements etc. --- mine felt like a natural custom 'rail' pickup for a 3-stringer (and a way to rescue what was gonna go in the trash or other experiment anyway).

we shall see if it even works. But it still specs out to the same reading as a regular pickup when measured on the mulitmeter. I should get a good signal. but will be interested to see if my new poles have the same response as the main poles....hardly matters I guess. and one of teh reasons I wanted to make the CBG2 be able to switch out a 'pickguard' mounted pick-up, so i can always do diferent electronics or etc.
  • Thats interesting. What is the reason to do that? More even response ? Good job, esp if it still works!
