  • Listen, Eric, I've got every tool you mentioned and then some, and I still screw up.  It's not the tools:  it's the craftsmanship of the person using them.  Your work is excellent!
  • Oh Hal,  Thank god for off-angle photos....it's not quite as perfect as it looks...close but hardly factory. I try to be as much of a perfectionist as I can be with some hand tools, files and a power drill...hard to build these on your livingroom floor. I'm dying for a heavy work bench and vise and a grinder and a semi-pro drill press, and a belt sander and a plunge router and and and and (cut to 3K worth of wish list later...)

You should try aluminum if 'white metal' works for one of your builds...sure is easier than the steel parts I did on CBG2 -- those were a pain in the butt -- but maybe pick one specialty part on your next build and make a little custom dohickey with a hacksaw and a file and some sand paper...it's kinda fun to make hardware that fits your weird one-off need.

  • I am always in awe of people that can shape metal accurately, even a simple part like this.
