Thanks Michael. I've since modified this with a higher bridge. It puts the string height over the box at a comfortable place and increased the volume. I have considered a hold-down just past the bridge too.
ED, the down force on the strings from the bridge will make a big difference. My brother did the same thing with a bridge far from the tail and it was a quiet cbg.
I need to come up with a better bridge or restring it with higher gauge strings. Right now it is tuned EBE with the EAD strings from a light acoustic pack. The eye bolt threads won't hold the E string. I should also take some stock out of the tailpiece. I used a little scrap of aluminum angle I had hanging around and I think it raises the strings enough to prevent good down-tension on the bridge. The last problem is electronics. I have a good buzz going on from the pot. I wired two piezos in series but I must not have a good enough ground connection between the pot and jack or something. It doesn't buzz when at the lowest or highest setting, but it is no good anywhere in between.
