Easy side markers

This is nothing new, others do it. But it seems worth showing again. Gouge the desired spot with a metal pick. Carefully drill a shallow depression with a 1/8 inch drill bit.Use a small circular shaped tool (like the handle of a small paint brush) to dip into the paint then carefully dip into the drilled hole.Optional: put spot of polyurethane over it after it is dry.Placement: If the markers are on a guitar I will use for slide, I like the markers in the sweet spots - right under the frets (and where you want the slide to go.)

  • Thanks, Alan.   Good methods!

  • Haven't tried the Picks solder idea, might be worth a try?.

Usually I burn the side markers with a small red hot nail, and on the darker coloured necks, fill the shallow depression with a white out pen, or drill & hammer in shortened rivet heads, and like yourself, always right under the frets, every man has his own methods and ideas, so whatever works for the individual is fine!!!!!

  • I may try it.  Trouble is, I am taking those Build Stop tablets.

  • havent  tried  it with  melted solder  ,  but  in theroy  it  should   be  nice and sandable with a high  shine . only  fear  i  have  is  solder  dont stick  to  wood that   good  .  it  might  in a hole tho  ?

  • Interesting idea Pick.   Seems a good one.  Have you done it?

  • try it with solder  ;-)

  • I use to use a paint that matched my underwear.  But then I got tired of white fret markers.

Now I put some color in my life.  But not so much my underwear.
