  • Thanks Lowe!
  • Actually doesn't matter if it is spray or regular paint the main thing is that it is flat.

Semigloss or gloss will not sand off right it just wads up in balls I use semi gloss sometimes to tho to get that effect but you have to let it dry for a long time flat is dry in a few minutes normally.

Poly will work just don't build up a huge thick coat. It only takes a very light coat to keep it from tarnishing anything more might effect the sound.

  • Thanks so much Lowe! Will polyurethane work on the cone to keep it from turning green?  Can you give advise on the kind of black paint?  Would spray paint work?  Thanks again so much for your help!

  • Oh and looking good! forgot to say that part Ha!
  • I'd say on this particular one paint it black go easy on the cone part tho then start sanding on the box and steel wool on the cone then go over again with some dark stain !

    Just me!

I like to sand in between those bolts on the cone to make it look worn out too.

Also if you want the cone to stay shiny it needs a coat of something or it will get dull and eventually green looking but it takes a long time!

I use an orbital sander with 220 to take the paint off then fine tune with 220 by hand .

It's all about the way you want it to look and having the good sense to stop and the good part is if you take off too much just paint it again

  • Thanks Lowe!  I am hard at work on my first Lowe Cone resophonic.  Perhaps I could get advice from the master on staining-antiquing-looking cool and old.

  • The one on the left I sanded I mean really sanded till it went into the second layer of the plywood on the box.

The one on the right YEP! flat black spray paint sand it off or rub it off with a rag with dark stain on it.

  • Very nice!  Will you share how you got the worn look?  Black paint that you rubbed off?
