  • thanks rand.i'm already planning my next build. maybe a reso, but i think i'll stay fretless for now

  • Not bad for a first build. My first builds were all canjos before I got into CBG building just this past summer. On the canjos I came up with the idea of using tie-wraps (the kind electricians use to "dress-up" their wiring) as frets, beginning with what is known as a diatonic scale. This might be one route you can go. The nice thing about tie-wrap fret is that you can move them to achieve better intonation (where the tone at each fret position is right on the spot according to my digital tuner). From there you can try wooden on metal frets. As a beginner guitar player, I prefer the nylon strings (easier on the fingers as compared to steel strings), but you can go which ever way you prefer. You may also prefer to keep you instrument fretless. In any case, there is a lot of good information on this site and friendly, helpful people that can give you good advice. Welcome to the club!
