I play home made instruments with folks playing factory instruments. I need loud home mades to be heard.Today I played and open chord on several instruments at the same distance from the decibel meter. Keep in mind that the home mades I chose are loud ones. Here are the semi-scientific results.Big Gibson Dreadnaught = 70 decibelsPot Lid 1 = 68 decibelsPot lid 2 = 65 decibelsWashboard 3 string = 65 decibelsDGB White Owl = 57 decibelsGDG cigar box = 58 decibels

Hi, Gary. They are handy. And maybe always going about a foot from the sound hole would add consistency. I do find that my ears and the decibel meter do not agree.
I use a similar db meter and find it to be valuable. I put the meter about a foot from the sound hole and really wail on the strings with a pick for Max output. I have hit 100 db and most instruments are in the 90's (acoustic).

You guys obviously need hearing impaired women.
I also have a Decibel Meter 'UJ', her name is Lynette (my partner of some 34 years), her Decibel Ratings of my Guitars are:
(1) That's Loud
(2) That's Bloody Loud
(3) Sh#t That's F#$@&%*n' Noisy!!!
;-) ;-) ;-) ;-)
It's handy, Rob.. Wes, I can't hear you.
Blinded me with science!
Very interesting.
