Just the cigar box tradition of using found parts like a pallet I used a while back and like something you found at the dump. Gives good mojo.
whats the difference ? if I found it at the dump it would still be the same.
do you mean use old stuff?
Found stuff is the best. Just my opinion, but the steel rod is not needed.

ive been given a pine bed ,all straight grain.Intend to slot it and insert 1/4"steel rod
and set it in 2 part car filler.sand down and cover with hardwood fretboard
Huh. Pine is fine. Especially if you make it a bit thick and avoid knots or add a hardwood fretboard. One of my fave gits, the old White Owl is pine.
