If you have a scroll saw this is the best way to do fret slot. Thats a 1" x 2" piece of Padauk been awhile since i did frets in a neck. First the slots must be cut in before the taper is cut.

  • Will the way my right hand is injured i can`t hold a fretsaw anymore. What i use for my power scroll saw blades is cooping saw blades, their alot heavier then the normal blades one uses on a scroll saw. Hell i can cut bone very nice on it too. The thicker blades are the exact width for fret wire.

  • while not a bad idea im not sure if its right for everybody, my scroll saw jumps around quite a bit if it catches the grain

i just use a $10 flush cut saw from harbor freight and a homemade miter box. just cut the slots deep enough to bury the teeth and the frets fit perfect. takes about 10 minutes to mark the fret board and make all the cuts

  • Yeah i seen some who do that, i just have a pencil mark on the edge and then i can gauge the depth cut. I learned this from old lowe years ago.

  • Rany, i do that also but  I turn the blade around, facing in, so I can see where I'm cutting. I think I saw the video on you tube.
