The overlay cover had to be 1/4" thick as the inlay has to be at least 3/16" deep or it won`t work. That's why I carved out the underside to recess the pup in it. I used 3 ..1/4" high cut steel rods for the spacers to get the proper pull on the strings for the pup.
I took a trade deal pup I had and modified it. The overlay top I had to carve a pocket in the underside to accept the pup top. With the overlay on the whole unit sets about 3/4" high.

Dang pretty stuff that you do. That's beautiful. What material do you use for the inlay? Sure shines nicely.
Sumac?! Pretty neat.
