  Good question Diane - yes, I believe the heat does effect the wood - the added heat often seems to bring out extra oils (for lack of a better description) to the surface. I usually do a little light sand after the burning to help with that - and then I go back over the burned design (if needed) to darken any sanded areas - Thanks - T

  Tom, do you find the heat from the wood burner effects the way the wood takes stain and finish around the burning?
