Hey Diane, I believe there are templates. There are also some pretty good diagrams. He is very, very detailed. Almost too much at some points. This was my first build (of pretty much any kind of instrument), and I was able to make it, so I'm sure you would have no problem. It is definitely a very thorough book.

Does this book include diagrams or templates for the neck and fingerboard? That's the part that takes so much noodling and adjusting, I found.

Hey Diane, it is approximately 5 1/4"s wide x 12 1/2"s long. I haven't had any trouble with it clipping the sides. Actually, the reason I made the box was because all the cigar boxes I had were too wide. I did some research (since this was my first build) and I got the plans from this guy http://www.adventurousmuse.com/cigar-box-fiddles/. His name is Don Rickert...he's an extremely nice guy.

How wide is it, and do you have trouble with the bow clipping the sides? I'm thinking of building another one soon, but likely with a ready-made box.

I actually made the box out of spanish cedar. I didn't have a box that fit the right specs, so I improvised.
