Cigar Box Bass Body

This is the big, Cuesta Rey box - finished with layers of stain and flecked gold. There is so much gloss on the varnish, it's almost impossible to photograph. I may test a satin coat on top! The truss rod is visible in the neck pocket, bu nothing is yet attached.

    It turned out to be redwood, underneath. Not premium for a CBG - but will probably make a good boomy bass.
  • Diane, 17"x9" and 3" deep. It was a display box for 3 sizes of cigar...

    I might have to go with a wooden paint box, next time.

  • Thanks - I worked over and over on this, and disliked the result at every stage, until it got to the point that I suddenly didn't. :-)

    I have been ambivalent about the box - which is requiring a lot of stiffening, etc.

    Most of the work can be transferred to a different body, if I get the notion at a future time. Right now, I am just focusing on getting this done. I have been part-time fiddling around since February on this project, and probably have another six weeks til done...
