Thanks CJ. I used a french type polish, it was like a runny sort of wax then buffed it up with a car polisher attatched to a cordless drill. If you build it up in layers it comes up great, takes a while though!
I'll see if I've still got the container and find a name for you
I love the binding around the edges. How did you get such a nice gloss finish? I usually use a low-tech matte or satin finish because I've never been able to achieve a professional looking gloss finish like yours.
The head is a banjo one and seems fine with the pressure. Underneath it is a section of an air duct tube I sawed off which also acts like a tone ring. The steel fixing ring on top is a cooker hob ring with holes drilled in which then screw into the vent and pulls the whole thing together. Next time I change the strings I'll post up a photo with the box open, so you can see what I mean.
Excellent build, perfect finish! how does the Remo head (drum or banjo?) cope with the string pressure on the bridge - like a drum head it must have needed to be pretty tight, was wondering about doing something like this myself in the future. (-;

Thanks for the 5 stars!! I shall get a video up so you can check out the sound.
From something made from a cooker ring and a piece of old chimney flue, she don't half bad!!

Thanks for the comment Scott, she was a bit of a tricky build as there was a lot of working out to do.
But now she's sounding sweet.
