Much easier than that. The two outer pieces are maple, and the strip in the middle is a piece of 1/4" oak from home depot. I laminated the three pieces together. The oak strip in the middle provides the width I need for a 3 or 4 stringer, plus adds the nice effect. The maple is also from Home Depot and is 3/4" thick, although they sell it as 1". The starting width and width inside the box is approx. 1.75". I cut the neck on a router so it tapers down at the nut.
I was curious... for the strip down the middle on the neck, did you tape that off and stain it, or did you do a scarf joint? I have seen that on many guitars and was wondering. My guess is that you taped it off and stained it. Is that correct?
