There is one cut in the box to allow the neck to sit flat. The neck rests on poplar blocks and cedar shims (inside slats from the box) to get the right height. I the block that holds the hinge/tailpiece had to be added. I could have simply left the neck longer but thought I'd get cute. I ended up having to add a block (as if the neck were longer) to screw in the hinge tailpiece. I figured the cedar box side wall just wouldn't be enough.

How thick is your neck? From this angle it looks quite thin, but that's likely an optical illusion. Too thin a neck can be problematic, especially with many wire strings. If it is a thin neck, I'd recommend nylon strings, which don't stress the neck so much.
Wish I could locate some small hinges like yours here in China. I'm sure they have 'em but I don't know where to buy 'em.
