CBG (Cracker Box Guitar) "Ol' Salty"

Vintage Nabisco Saltine tin, 22 1/4" scale, spalted maple neck/heel out of one piece of wood, walnut fret dots, dual piezos in parallel. Now if I could just find a Sardine can big enough to fit amp components in ;-)

  • Thanks John. Didn't really reinforce it to much, I cut a board that the neck attaches to the exact size of the bottom of the tin and glue it together then the whole shebang goes in the tin. The tin top is cut really snug and then everything gets some screws, it's really strong. The can is also from back when they made them a heck of a lot thicker also so that helps. I just finished a Sweet Mist Fine Cut Tobacco tin git last night, a round banjo/mando style git with an 18" scale. I am really pleased with the way it turned out. It plays nice acoustically and really sounds good amped up :-)

I think I would ask Linda before you go and cut into her nice cracker tin, I have 3 more of the Nabisco tins if you need one to stay out of trouble ;-)

  • Like that one, Pat.   Did you do much re-enforcement to the tin?   We have a cracker tin in the pantry.   Full of crackers.   I wonder if Linda will miss it...

  • Whoa there Wes, I didn't call you no cracker man lol Thanks Mr. Carl!

Oh yea Thomas, that works good! I like the color of that BandAid tin :-)

  • It worked good for me.

  • Thanks Thomas! That sounds like a great idea on the Band-aid tin :-)

  • Nice can Maddog. I used a Band-aid can for the electrics on my "Twocan" build. The hinged lid worked great for access to the innards.
