  • mehh, I should spend more time practicing and less time building but I have a few tunes that I can at least use to demonstrate what they sound like. My goal is to get good enough to post some videos that won't totally embarrass myself.

I also need a reliable recording method with decent sound quality which I don't have at the moment.

  • That is a good method. I must have been able to see that on the through the box photo. You make good looking stuff. How is your playing coming along?
  • Thanks John,

I'm slowly adding my builds to this page. It's a process of build, learn, modify. You will see my progress as I get further along in the postings.

As for necks I've settled on full 3/4" hardwood material with a 1/4 inch hardwood fretboard and I  double up the material through the box to allow for nothing etc.

    No troubles so far.

  • I love the look of this one.

A couple of photos back you showed the size of the neck going through the box. I was going to keep my big mouth shut, but now I see that you are only on build #5. Your builds look great, but in my opinion, you got too thin through the box. When you build such good looking stuff, you don't want someone else to get the guitar and have the neck bow. Strong is good, strong and still light is better. After a few bowed necks I usually go a full inch thickness through the box, use a small heel and usually a 1/4 inch glued on finger board for added strength.
  • This is build #5. It's my first 4 string, uses a wood cigar box with maple neck topped with a jatoaba fret board. I used corian for the nut and bridge. Corian is a synthetic material used for countertops. It cuts and sands easily and is more dense than plastic. I received a bunch of small off cuts from a cabinet maker.

This one was eventually sold to a friend of my sisters and went to the UK, my first sale.
