CB Dulci Thing

My friend Brian bought this before I could do a video demo. It has a sweeter tone than the ones I've made from cookie tins (though I like them too!) I liked this one enough that I spent more than I like to for another JFR box to make another.

  • I have one of those boxes. I had a bass in mind for it. Would definitely like to hear your next one.

  • Thanks Robert. First thing I did was cut the bottom  2" off the box. It seemed too deep to hold comfortably. I glued a piece of mahogany ply on the bottom since the original bottom was pressed board. The neck is 24" scale with standard dulcimer fret spacing which corresponds to the 2nd,4th,5th 7th,9th,11th and 12 frets togive a diatonic (major) scale. Theres a few more high frets past the octave because the neck was long enough for them. A square dowel stick goes thru the box and is glued to the bottom of the neck. I think I glued a piece of wood inside the box on the neck end for a little extra strength. I'm working on it's twin now. This time I'll get a sound clip before I let it go!

  • Jim,

It looks great and I would have loved to have heard it, because I have the same box. What are the detail, how long is the neck and what is vsl spacing and what ever other info about it.

    Thanks,

    Bob
