  • I have had many different Hohner models over the years (around 30 yrs or so). When I am in the mood to do some straight harp I really enjoy the Comet. It has 2 rows of holes tuned an octave apart and has a very full sound it is great for melodies around the campfire. With practice I have learned to play only a single row at a time and kick in with both when needed, it's a nice effect. I like the Echo Harp also, it has 2 rows of holes and is tuned in Old World European style tremolo. It has a wood comb and bell metal reeds. Sounds a lot like a German Accordion and is great for Polka type music. It is fun to play every once in a while for a change of pace.

What I really love to play is cross harp Blues and Rock Music. I have had Marine Band, Bluesband, a Special 20, but never bought a complete set of Hohners. I really liked the sound of the Special 20 and it played well and was a tight fitted case and not leaky.

I'm thinking of trying the Lee Oscars, had a set of Suzuki harps that sounded great but didn't hold up well to my style of playing.

  • Should have mentioned that a cross harp loving friend thinks highly of Lee Oscar harps.   Pricey.

At this point, early into the cross harp, I like the Hohner Special 20.   What Hohner do you like?

  • AsI said, I was a straight harp player only until this year.  The Huangs were good for that  not much bending.

I just looked and realized that the C, A and D harps I have been using for cross harp are all Hohners.   So far, so good with them.

  • Yes, I see what you mean!

  • Uncle John,

had this haircut for around 11 years or so...back when I could grow hair I had lots of long (shoulder length) coal black hair. And yes I have been thinking about growing a mustache someday! haha

I have been comparing notes with Bluesheart on what harps he favors. I have been playing Bushman Harps for quite a few years now and really like them but customer support is the Absolute Worst have ever experienced. They have the Phosphor Bronze coating and hold up better than any others I have tried. Been trying to buy some replacement reed plates for months now and keep getting the run around.

I like Hohner, Suzuki has a great sound but don't hold up well to my style of playing. I haven't tried Huang yet, do they hold up well?

Yea, the 2nd from the right is a CB Uke. It is my favorite so far. I put a 4 band eq/preamp/electronic tuner & pickup combo from ebay ($28) in it and it sounds great amplified. Sound level is kinda on the low side acoustic but plugged in is great.

  • Nice hair cut, man!  Good lookin gits behind you.  Like the little one 2nd from the right.

What kind of harps do you like?  I like Hohner and Huang.  Have not popped the bucks for an Oscar.

Are you trying to grow a mustache?
