Rocky Patel box, with a American black walnut through neck. Black ash fretboard courtesy of Ian MC Donald, gold frets from Mr Gitty, gold mother of pearl fret markers, and an ebony nut. The string ferrules are gold bicycle spoke nipples.The neck and fretboard have been stained, and the neck has a number of coats of Tru Oil.

  • Cheers Anders, I'm really enjoying playing this guitar. The action is very low, so no bottle neck playing. I've got it tuned D G B E, like the top 4 strings of a 6 string in standard tuning, and it really chimes.

    I'll try and post a video soon.

  • Cheers John. I still get the fear even thinking about scarf joints, but this one turned out okay. The black ash has a lovely pattern, you can sort of see it one the photo. I felt bad staining the board, but I wanted it darker and luckily the pattern shows through.

  • Gorgeous.  Nice scarfing and work.   Black ash-  a new one to me.   I once made a bunch of hall trees (freestanding coat hangers) out of ash and thought it a great wood.
