Barncaster #17 by Dave Lynas

Here's a closer look at the Barncaster. Rustic pine thick heavy ol 2x12 complete with knots. They did a good job with their copy of a Tele body blank. Everything fit just right. I added some height adjustments to the neck pickup and made a wood shim plate under the bridge to bring it to the right height. I curved the jack plate also to fit the body as good as I could with this thickness of Paduke. This was a simple project and the body blank was just $25. Fun!

  • Ok.  Here's the answers to my questions!  Looks great Dave.

  • Well, I couldn't resist and ordered two new body blanks. These were even more inexpensive than my first. More work for me to do, routing out some gear pockets, but I like things like that. I'll do all the cover plates on the next two. I like doing that too.

  • Ya this lady has a rich tone. The bass is very rich and full. Sustain till the cows come home. I've made so many kinds of boxes now, I have to learn how to play each one. I'm confused that way, but feel like a pig in swill. So many choices, they all work good. Too good...

  • Oh YEOW !!!  Yet another beauty...Veryyyy Koool Dave...Bet she has tone to da bone !!!

  • Thanks for the kind words Wade. I think Fender would just shudder. Anyhow, the more I play her, the better she sounds. I've been tweeking the bridge adjustments, lowered my action and worked on the intonation. Now, I need to lower the neck pickup a little. It's just too close to the strings. A little dremel action will fix it.

  • That is just awesome!!! Love the knottiness and the pickguard is just kool. I cringe to think what Fender would charge for something like this!
