  • Thanks, Al Allen, for your comment. I made the instrument mostly for my son who's too little to play a big (triangle shaped) balalaika. The round body of this banjo balalaika fits him fine. The traditional tuning for the balalaika is A - E - E, when the 2nd and 3d strings sound in unison. Some people tune it like the uke (A-E-C), as the vibrating string length is nearly the same, in my variant it's 435 mm. As to the cat, I think it has too fine an ear for music to put up with my exercising.
