Banjo for Leon

This is a 5-string banjo I made for my dear friend Leon Collins, an artist living in Navasota, Tx. (You can read about Leon's amazing life here: http://russellcushmanart.blogspot.com/2012/11/leon-is-back-and-better-than-ever.html)It uses a 14" x 2.5" Remo handdrum which I veneered with Walnut, a hand-carved walnut neck, a Paduak fingerboard dyed ebony black, a mandolin-style taipiece, geared banjo tuners, and a floating maple and ebony bridge. It's tuned to standard open G (GDGBD), and so far I can play the first few bars of "Dueling Banjos" on it.I made it especially for Leon to paint the drumhead with one of his characteristic images. All proceeds from the sale will go towards Leon's upcoming heart surgery.
