"Arizona '73"

"Arizona '73" - This is my first LPG build. I acquired a used licence plate off the "bay" and scratch-built a suitable box body from a length of pine to suit. The neck is poplar which I stained walnut with a hint of antique pine/yellow (more-or-less the same for the body). I inserted an Elmar Flatpup Mini Humbucker to the neck and kept it flush to the box lid. I cut down a single coil pickup cover and fitted it over the Flatpup to conceal it. This provided a neat fit as I wanted a pickup protruding through the number "zero" on the licence plate - looks like a "S-Coil"... sounds like a "Bucker". I fitted half of a brass Munsen ring pipe bracket to attach the shoulder strap to. Brass frets and bronzed machine heads with a beefy nut and bolt bridge (no twiddly knobs). A light sanding to the edges to give a subtle road-worn appeal to compliment the plate. Finished off with a light wax and polish. Tuned to GDG.

  • Thank you AGP.  You have a keen eye for detail and construction. I'm still in my relatively early days of building these amazing instruments. Your comments are much appreciated.

  • Yep!, I knew it was going to be a good 1st LPG build Bob!, the placement of the String Retainer, Bridge and Pup was very well thought out, as was the Box, Neck and Tuner colours to compliment the Plate, Gongrat's on a fine build :-)

  • Cheers Denbo. I finally got runs to building one.

  • Thank you for your kind compliments Uncle J and Poorness S.  I tried to minimalise the positioning of the bridge work and pickup locations

  • I like the way you did the pickup in the middle of the zero. Nice touch.
  • This one has a really great look.  A sit and gaze good look.  Super nice job on the box, fitting the pup, and that great looking fret board.
