Aluminium Pickup tester guts how it works

This is how it works as a vibration pickup and as a inductance pickup in the normal way.Now... How does an Alumitone work then!.... back to the drawing board!

  • This was how my aluminium pickup worked in the end after lost of thought, so I hadn't cracked it

but I had  just discovered a new way to make a vibration pickup. Listen to the song "sloth" for how it sounds...

  • Looks like the aluminium forms 2 coils around 2 mangiest
And then is inductively coupled at the crossover point
    Kinda like a transformer
Aluminium although non magnetic does weird stuff with magnets
See aluminium and magnets on YouTube
The secondary coil is like a step up I think
Does anyone know if these alumitones have a power supply?
I think I kinda get the idea but theres something clever
Happening I haven't quite got yet....
Maybe some more experiments are required
In the patent is says u shaped core and a coil off at perpendicular
So presumably the u is like a transformer
And the perpendicular coil is some form of step up device ?
Note the magnetic field adjacent to strings
Maybe you get lenz law and eddy currents
    Along the aluminium?
    Hmmm intriguing .....
  • Wicked well done that man!... Thanks Mr Oily,( have emailed you... send us back a mailing address via the email I sent and I will send you one to play with )

and Thanks Uncle John....I have just built a 2 string using these pups, as it should be with a broom handle and it sounds great, works a treat with my cigarbox amp I built !

  • Bug,

    Here's the Alumitone patent:

    http://www.patentgenius.com/patent/5767431.html
  • Nice drawing.  :)

  • Going to build a six string version with remote springs like a reberb, to get bounce back on the vibrations

worked on my roasting tin resonator guitar with piezos, so should work on these pups.

  • Gotcha! Neat.
